Supervisor, Engineering Lab
Department: Engineering Lab Reports to: Director, Engineering Lab This position is responsible for the day to day operation of the Lab, the assessment and assignment of test requests by the company at large, and supervising a team on lab technicians. This position is responsible for managing and motivating the team to accomplish the strategies and objectives of the lab. This position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Major Functions: * Provides overall engineering leadership and acumen, directly supervising up to 8 employees and building a highly talented and effective engineering lab. Including training of new technicians * Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Leviton’s policies and applicable laws. * Supervises environmental tests on electronic and electromechanical devices in accordance with UL, CSA, IEC and governmental standards * Interprets test results, data analysis and report writing * Interfaces with Engineering and QA Departments; interpretation of Standards and test requirements for new and existing products * Research and select test equipment, set up of training programs for new equipment * Oversee the proper calibration and maintenance of meters and equipment * Constructs specialized test fixtures and equipment * Prepares accurate, up-to-date and concise oral and written reports and reviews on departmental progress and direction. Education & Experience: * Bachelors Degree in Engineering or other related field * Minimum of 4 years of experience in product and materials testing and 2 years supervisory experience * Thorough knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC and government standards and test procedures * Knowledge of general machine shop work * Knowledge of household and industrial electrical devices and wiring in accordance with the National Electric Code * Working knowledge of all tests performed in the lab and equipment including: Salt Fog Chamber, Tensile Testing, Oscilloscope, Temperature/Humidity Cabinet, Thermocouples and temperature testing, X-ray and photography equipment, Dielectric Breakdown testing, Vibration testing, Flammability testing, ESD testing, EMC testing * Must also have a strong understanding of the engineering discipline * Must have good interpersonal relationship skills, and be capable of leading and motivating a group of people to accomplish the objectives set-up for their function.
