Job Description
Position Purpose: Supervise operations where applicable on 2ndshift with emphasis in Weld Shop activity, but ability to oversee Machine Shop, Assembly Department, and/or Shipping. Responsibilities: * Operate and schedule work within the department to meet/exceed the sales objectives working closely with 1stshift Weld Supervisor on priorities within department. * Works with additional shift supervision to assure the continuous production of manufactured product through the shift. * Meet or perform favorably to estimated hours per contract. * Achieve departmental and total manufacturing objectives for recordable accidents and safety and that quality standards are met within the department, and taking corrective action as required. * Trains employees, evaluates and documents performance. * Additional responsibilities * Helps to operate department within budget, unless expenses generating an unfavorable variance are authorized by Director of Operations. * Maintain a department on time delivery of 85%; or cycle count accuracy of 95%. * Support lean manufacturing. * Maintain housekeeping standards. * Support cost reduction targets within the department. * Enforces shop rules and supervises department within the confines of the contract.
Skills/Requirements
Skills/Competencies: * Strong communication skills, both oral and written * Computer * Attention to detail a must * Strong interpersonal skills * Organization * Blue print reading * Managing budgets * Working knowledge of metals * ASME code requirements
Education and Experience: * High School diploma required. * Minimum 5 years supervisory experience with welding background and significant weld shop experience in a manufacturing environment required. * Previous exposure to Lean Manufacturing preferred. * Previous heat exchanger manufacturing preferred. * Experience in assembly, fabrication and welding, and with machining and machine tools required. * Prior work in a Union environment preferred.
Challenges: * Meeting monthly production goals. * Working with a unionized staff. * Continuously looking at process improvements. * Supervising across multiple shifts.
Physical Requirement: * Must be able to work in an office environment as well as a plant environment on a daily basis.
