Tech Database Analyst (Corp)
The Database function at iShip includes Operational (database administration) responsibilities and an important role supporting software engineering efforts. The Operational duties involve monitoring and database administration task that cover early morning and late night hours.
Other Duties
General Database
Maintain the Data Base Server and Schema baseline for the production and test/staging environments
Manage all production, staging, and test/QA databases
Participate in design phase to establish the architect of components, interfaces and behaviors
Monitor, backup, recover, troubleshoot, and tune for reliability, scalability and performance
Take proactive measures to prevent service interruptions
Resolve service interruptions in a timely manner, effectively escalating to appropriate resources as necessary
Define and maintain SQL server baseline and installation procedures
Participate as in initial database design, system configuration, Disaster Recovery Installation, and security planning
Available for on-call support
Communicate effectively with QA, Research and Development, and other departments
Work with developers in troubleshooting database issues
Adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards
Develop and maintain documentation
Preferred Competencies
System Control
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (DBA)
Day-to-day support of large-scale production database
Support security of multi-database environment
Confirm, configure and troubleshoot database backup
Production environment (high volume online transaction oriented)
Large-scale data warehouse experience (EMC)
Extensive knowledge in building ad-hoc queries and specialized reporting
24x7, mission-critical environment
Documentation and communication skills
Discipline, change control, escalation processes
Minimum Qualifiers
4 — 6 years technical experience, software design & product support
3+ years' experience with SQL Server
More than 1-year exposure to database administration of a 24x7 production environment
Large Database (> 50GB) OLAP performance tuning
Successful operation of an OLTP systems and an OLAP system.
Backup up restore of large databases
Performed large bulk data loads & unloads (greater than 100,000 rows) on a production environment
A Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience is preferable
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Authorized to Work in the U.S.
