An exciting opportunity now exists to join Daikin America!  Due to growth of the company, we are searching for an enthusiastic, hard-working, and driven Technical Services Representative with Plastics Industry experience to join our team at our Orangeburg, NY location.

Job Description

This position provides technical support to customers and to Daikin’s sales and production efforts to help maintain and develop the FLUOROPOLYMER business. Efforts are guided by the business manager.  The Technical Service Representative is Daikin’s technical expert for FLUOROPOLYMER product and process technology.  Accomplished with extensive travel to customers and working within Daikin.  This position is a source of customer and market information for Daikin.

The Technical Services Representative duties will include but are not limited to:

• Supports sales efforts with technical service calls, plant trials, and lab support.
• Presents technical information on FLUOROPOLYMER products to customers, and obtains information on customers’ needs. Prepares technical references and reports to submit to customers.
• Visits customer’s sites to assist in testing and plant trials when trouble occurs at their sites.  Performs physical and chemical tests, and logically analyzes and determine causes, and troubleshoots.
• Conducts experiments, analysis, and investigations to support the development of new products according to customers’ needs.  Assists commercialization of the new products.
• Maintains experiments/evaluation results, and customers’ evaluation results and reports.
• Develops procedures for sample preparations to be used in the melts and FLUOROPOLYMER lab, and evaluates and analyzes samples.  Maintains all required documents.
• Performs analysis/evaluation of FLUOROPOLYMER products and competitors’ products, identifies Daikin’s and competitor’s weaknesses, strengths, and issues, and utilizes the information to support Sales Department, and for new product development.
• Assist QA Department in development of specifications for FLUOROPOLYMER products and raw materials.
• Support Customer Service and QA Department to resolve customer’s complaints on product quality and product processing problems.  Inspects inventory and customer returns and recommends disposition of such inventory.
• Assist in inspection and startup of new test equipment and processes, and modification of processes.
• Responsible for conforming to all health, safety, and environmental   requirements and regulations.
• Assist actively in training new members.
• Responsible for any other task associated with the support of the Fluoropolymer business as may be reasonably assigned.
• Responsible overall for the melts and FLUOROPOLYMER lab environment

Requirements

• Willingness to relocate to Orangeburg, NY (with assistance)
• Ability to work across Japanese-American cultural lines
• Willingness to travel 50% of the time (primarily domestically, with some international travel)
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related Technical field required
• 5+ years of plastics industry experience - Fluoropolymer/PTFE/Teflon experience strongly desired
• Strong customer-facing ability
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); abilities to develop reports and reference documents to submit to customers, as well as, to have positive discussions with customers during visits, and express one’s ideas clearly
• Ability to conduct physical and chemical tests, and to analyze chemical analysis using PC’s and corresponding software packages
