Essential Job Functions
. Supervises the technical work of the level II wax visual inspectors across all shifts . Responsible for reviewing, revising and approving relevant wax visual inspection procedures . Maintains the wax inspection database and posts inspection results to provide feedback to wax supervision and engineering on quality issues and wax operator performance (skills matrix) . Participates in downstream defect reviews at mold inspection, metal visual and FPI to identify wax process and wax execution related defects; participate in wax area problem solving and kaizens . Develops and trains employees as level II wax visual inspectors . Review and interpret all work instruction, specifications, codes, standards and other documents that control the wax process, particularly with respect to visual quality . Must work some off shifts to perform audits and train wax visual inspectors . Some travel require to audit or train suppliers, receive training, or participate in BU-wide efforts . Monitor and ensure that all wax visual inspection equipment is properly maintained and calibrated . Investigate new materials, equipment, and techniques to reduce the cost and increase productivity . Prepare and verify the adequacy of procedures and techniques for visual inspection . Audit the performance of wax level II's and take part in the preparation and execution of their reviews; participate in hiring and performance improvement plan discussions . Periodically review all Product Criteria Sheets to ensure accuracy . Assist Engineering in documenting part-specific quality standards.
Interpersonal Responsibilities This Level III Wax Visual Inspector has regular interaction with the engineering, quality and wax departments. He/ she also has occasional contacts with suppliers, customers, internal auditors, and other Alcoa Howmet employees at the BU level or in other plants. Supervision This position supervises 0-12 Level II Wax Visual Inspectors. Basic Qualifications . Must meet Export Regulations (ITAR). . High School Diploma or Equivalent . The Level III Wax Visual Inspector position requires a High School Diploma . Must be able to perform the duties of a Level II Wax Visual Inspector. Supervisory, manufacturing, wax and NDT experience are also desired. . In addition, within the first 120 days in the job, all Level III Wax Visual Inspectors must successfully complete classroom training and pass a proficiency test in both general visual inspection and wax specific inspection. Preferred Qualifications . Communication skills . Prior supervisory experience desired. . Prior quality assurance experience desired. . Interpersonal communication skills required. . Knowledge of casting processes and associated quality systems . Understanding of impact of wax quality on finished castings . Knowledge of downstream defect measures . Prior experience training employees desired . Proficient computer skills required. (including Excel and Access desired) . Problem solving and conflict management skills desired
