Interviews are stressful enough - deciding what you should wear is an added bonus no one is asking for. What you wear to an interview is the interviewers first impression of you, so you want it to say something great. Here are some fashion tips all college graduates should consider when going into an interview.

Make Sure Your Clothes Are Comfortable Before You Leave.

The last thing an interviewer wants to see is a potential employee fidgeting or messing with their hair during the interview. This can make you seem or feel nervous and you want to appear nothing but confident. Try on your outfit the night before and walk around it in, sit down and stand up - check to make extra sure you are comfortable, and that the clothes you are wearing don’t look or feel awkward.

Dress Conservatively.

This does not mean you have to show up dressed like a nun—it just means you should look like you care. If you are showing excess amounts of skin on your abdomen, thighs, or back it can look like you are not taking the interview seriously. It’s okay to have a little flair if you enjoy fun fashion, but don’t show up in anything too flashy, like neon colors or graphic T’s. Try to wear neutral colors and avoid jewelry that could make a lot of noise or tempt you to fidget with.

Make Sure Your Hair Looks Good.

Not only does a good hair day make you feel amazing, it gives you a professional, put together look that employers will appreciate. If your hair is long, you may want to consider keeping it in a bun so you are not tempted to play with it or fix it during the interview, and it also looks very clean. Try not to wear any flashy barrettes or juvenile scrunchies.

If You’re Wearing Makeup, Make Sure It Looks Good.

Do not walk into a job interview with a smoky eye and silver eyeliner - wrong place, wrong time. If you are going to wear makeup, use tones that are subtle and give your face a fresh look. Avoid false lashes, clumpy mascara, vibrant shades of eyeshadow, and don’t overdo it on the lipstick or blush. Just be yourself!

Do Your Research on The Company Culture.

Some companies are more serious and others have a more relaxed culture. Do your research on the company website and social media pages to figure out how the company culture feels, and decide what you will wear based on that. If you are still unsure after the interview, just wear something professional that is comfortable and feels like you.
