Regrettably, many women and other minority groups seeking jobs in the hospitality industry continue to experience unfair barriers to employment, compensation inequities, and a paucity of career-building opportunities.
Organizations like DiversityInHospitality.com and WomenInHospitality.com have sprung up to address some of these challenges and have become instruments for change. These two Internet communities enable high-quality hospitality industry employers and job seekers to find each other. They also allow hospitality industry employers to attract more minority and women job candidates to management positions. Other diversity organizations in the hospitality industry include:
Diversity in Lodging - American Hotel & Lodging Association. This area of the AH&LA website speaks to diversity issues in lodging with information on women in lodging and best practices.
Hospitality Industry Diversity Institute. A site that focuses on diversity education, training, and issue resolution affecting the hospitality industry and its workforce.
Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance. This national think tank promotes the economic benefits of diversity and inclusion in the foodservice and hospitality industry. The MFHA organizes national conferences and develops products that provide solutions and opportunities in diversity issues.
National Center for Minorities in Hospitality. NSMH is the premier professional organization for minority hospitality students.
National Multicultural Institute. This institute provides training and education for businesses about diversity management.
