Candidates will spend all day on the optical floor interfacing with patients.
Candidates are responsible for assisting patients with glasses selection, order pick-ups, adjusting contact lenses, assisting with glasses modifications (changes to frames, lenses, prescriptions, etc.), evaluating prescriptions, pricing insurance out for patients, and supporting any other questions patients might have.
Candidates will see 20-30 patients per day. Documentation of patient records required, as well.
This is a patient care driven clinic and not sales oriented.
Display a professional attitude, greets patients. Interprets optical prescriptions.
Fits and services optical appliances such as spectacle frames and lenses.
Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer.
Assists with contact lens insertion and removal training.
Assists with ordering contact lenses and eyeglasses from vendors.
Verify and enter billing information. Collect patient payments. Obtain authorizations from insurance companies if necessary.
Enter and post patient payments.
Check in eyeglass and contact lens orders (verify prescription meets ANSI standards).
Answers phone.
Notifies patients when optical products are ready for pick up.
Checks on status of orders. Inputs and maintains patient information in the computer and charting systems.
Mandatory trainings/education meetings, occasionally before 8:00AM or after 5:30PM.
1+ years' experience as a licensed optician required
Must have licensure by North Carolina State Board of Opticians
Knowledge and understanding of prisms highly preferred
PEDs experience highly preferred
Private practice (or Doctor's Office) experience HIGHLY preferred, as this will cut down on required training
Private practices (Doctor's office) have more extensive workflows (additional steps like filing insurance, ordering product, and verifying prescriptions for doctors, understanding Visual Acuities in prescriptions, troubleshooting issues with lenses rather than simply ordering a new pair). This is a slower, but more intensive and detailed process.
Hours: Monday-Friday from 8:00a-5:00p, no weekends
Pay Rate: $20.66-31/hour (HR dictates pay rate based on experience, education and internal equity)
