  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MANAGER

    The purpose of this position is to oversee and manage the work distributed to field resources that supports the Southern Company Gas mission of safe and reliable operation of the gas distribution system. This role works collaboratively with Field Operations Regional Directors and other Business Functional Unit leaders to execute on all operational objectives. This role includes the development and monitoring of performance objectives that drive efficient and effective operating results for the Scheduling and Logistics disciplines for Field Operations (above and below ground), System Operations, Construction Operations and Meter Reading. This is an operational leadership role that requires the day-to-day management of the business to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations and maintain and improve reliability, safety, and customer service. This position is accountable and responsible for delivering on performance and financial results impacting across multiple LDCs in multiple jurisdictions. This person is accountable and responsible for delivering on performance and financial results, meeting regulatory guidelines, developing, and maintaining a competent workforce, executing on emergency response, and ensuring company image is maintained in the communities Southern Company Gas serves. This position also assesses the technology platforms used to manage work and resources and develops the business rules for same.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES BY COMPETENCY

    Functional Expertise:

    • Responsible for the deployment of work and resources to maintain safe and reliable operation of the gas distribution system.

    • Leads & directs personnel to ensure the efforts of all employees align with the corporate strategies.

    • Accountable and responsible for maintaining compliance with CFR part 192 and company policies and procedures.

    • Leads emergency response and incident command coordination from the resource perspective.

    • Leads safety sensitive department responsible for first line of defense response where critical corporate risks are present.

    • Responsible for the coordination of matching workforce and controlling workload between the Call Center, Field Operations and Resource Management.

    Business Acumen:

    • Constructs staffing models to optimize supply and demand requirements for field resources.

    • Collaborates with the Forecasting department to recommend staffing enhancements to Field Operations.

    • Conducts monthly operational review process including variance explanation and corrective action plans.

    • Conduct weekly and monthly planning sessions with Field Operations leaders.

    • Analyzes and interprets key operating metrics to create opportunities for improvement.

    • Identifies and analyzes opportunities to increase productivity, quality, customer satisfaction and/or safety performance while driving cost out of the business.

    • Develops and implements new processes and procedures resulting from "lessons learned" meetings and "root cause" analysis.

    • Recommends mitigation strategies for key operating risk.

    Engagement:

    • Presents key performance metrics and operational results to key leaders on at least a monthly basis.

    • Leads and coordinates incident support calls with leaders across all Southern Company Gas.

    • Key approver of regulatory data and results on a monthly (or as needed) basis.

    • Responsible to assist with the data preparation for regulatory rate case proceedings.

    • Key liaison between Field Operations, Legal and Corporate Security across all Southern Company Gas.

    • Manages staff selection and performance development through coaching and training opportunities.

    • Collaborates with operating personnel, Forecasting, and Scheduling to execute on monthly/weekly plans in accordance with performance standards and achieving the annual work plan.

    • Collaborates with peers and intra-company departments to ensure appropriate performance of service providers and best practices sharing.

    • Understands the relationship with field resources including rules and regulations associated with bargaining agreements.

    • Balances external stakeholder (customer, regulatory agency, permitting jurisdiction, etc.) needs with company goals and objectives to reach a favorable resolution to stakeholder issues and/or concerns.

    • Develops individual development plans to ensure talent pool growth for scheduling and logistics.

    • Works with business units outside of Resource Management to attract talent into the department on a permanent and rotational basis.

    • Presents company results and key initiatives to groups outside of Southern Company Gas and leads committees for groups like AGA and SGA.

    • Interacts with executives and other key company leaders on a regular basis.

    Driving Results:

    • Manages work assignments to meet budget targets for Resource Management as well as a key contributor and influencer for the Field Operations global budget target.

    • Ensures the development and execution of annual work plans.

    • Establishes, monitors and drives work goals that are consistent with the departments and corporation's overall strategy.

    • Drives results through performance management of staff including setting goals and expectations, evaluating results, and taking corrective action as needed.

    • Reinforces roles and responsibilities of resources engaged in the execution of work.

    • Exceed all tariff requirements put forth by each state's regulatory commission and agreed to by Southern Company Gas.

    • Responsible for the hiring, terminating, and developing growth of employees in the department.

    • Manages a large team of resources responsible for a broad range of activities ranging from safety sensitive critical activities to planning and dispatching numerous varied work types.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Certifications/Licenses:

    Required:

    • Valid Driver's License

    • BA/BS Degree in Business or equivalent work experience

    Preferred:

    • MBA

    Related Work Experience:

    Required:

    • 7+ years of experience in utility operating environment in the energy industry.

    • 3+ years of Supervisor and/or Managerial level experience managing team.

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

    The incumbent works in an office environment with occasional trips to the field, travel to all the gas companies within Southern Company Gas as well as industry conferences & collaboration with other gas companies.
