Multi-Department Coverage (MDC) Supervisor- Decatur Corn Plant, Decatur IL
This is an exempt level position.
This position will provide job coverage for Shift Supervisors in the four processing departments, as well as the General Foreman. The MDC Supervisor will have oversight of employees and day-to-day operations in each of the four processing departments, depending on the assigned position and shift. Demonstrated leadership skills are necessary, as this position will be required to initiate and communicate a variety of personnel actions; e.g., assigning job tasks, addressing performance, and scheduling and/or approving overtime. The MDC Supervisor must be available to work twelve hour shifts both days and nights, weekends, and holidays. This position requires the ability to adapt to a flexible schedule based on plant coverage needs.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide job coverage for Shift Supervisors in the four processing departments and General Foreman
Manage plant operations to maintain personnel and process safety
Manage plant operations to ensure in spec final product quality
Assist with the development and deployment of Performance Excellence processes throughout the plant
Train and develop subordinate staff
Estimate personnel needs
Assign job tasks, clean-up work, overtime, etc.
Interpret and ensure consistent application of organizational policies
Provide timely follow-up communication with department and plant leadership
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
5-8 years' experience in direct supervision of people within a manufacturing environment is preferred
Supervisory experience in a union environment is a plus
Strong and demonstrated commitment to safety
Strong communication (spoken and written) skills for coordination, training, and reporting
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively

Chemicals / Irritants
The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed
Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing
Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to thirty (30) pounds on a frequent basis, up to fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis
Lifting or carrying of weights over fifty (50) pounds is rare; employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than fifty (50) pounds
Ability to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day
Ability to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standing
Ability to operate equipment or diagnose/detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding, or other work at heights
Full range of physical motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights
