  • Job Summary

    Under direct supervision of an orthotist, evaluates, measures, fits, and adjusts selected prefabricated lower extremity, upper extremity and spinal orthoses.

    Job Duties

    The below will be performed under direct supervision of an orthotist

    • Assists the orthotist with the patient's condition and in determining the needed treatment.

    • Elicits the patient's interpretation of the current situation and their expected outcome for the orthosis.

    • Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan provided.

    • Communicates with the prescribing physician to clarify the prescription and discusses other possible options.

    • Uses the appropriate prefabricated orthosis that will fulfill the prescription and provide the desired outcome.

    • Measures the patient.

    • Fits the patient with the selected orthosis.

    • Adjusts the prefabricated orthosis as necessary to achieve optimal fit and function according to the plan of care formulated.

    • Provides instruction to the patient and family on proper use and care of the prefabricated orthosis.

    • Provides appropriate follow-up care after fitting, including adjustments and repairs.

    • Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts prefabricated orthoses.

    Position Details

    This position is a trainee position and includes a pathway to become a Licensed Orthotic Fitter within 6 months of hire pending criteria below.

    Pathway includes:

    • Complete 1000 hours of practice supervised by a licensed Orthotist or 500 hours of practice if Licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC)

    • A passing score on the Certified Orthotic Fitter examination

    • Apply for a Pennsylvania State License as a Licensed Orthotic Fitter

    Work Schedule:

    • Hours: M-F (8am-4:30pm)

    • Travel: None

    • Weekends: None

    • Holidays: None
