Shipyard Laborer

Description:

• Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems.

• Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments meeting technical standards and specifications and engineering directives.

• Operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, measuring, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

• Clean and prepare sites, clean up rubble and debris, and remove materials for work.

• Assist other trade workers as needed.

• Laborers load and unload equipment, and carry materials to skilled workers.

• Removes paint and scale from ships' metal surfaces, using hand or powered wire brushes.

• Conveys materials and tools to work site.

• Loads vehicles, using hand truck or dolly. Washes trucks and other vehicles. Cleans ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas, using broom and water hose.

• Opens shipping crates, using hammer and pinch bar.
