PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Supervises a team of 18 to 24 technicians specially trained and skilled to fabricate, install, and maintain large commercial and large industrial electric and/or gas meter sets. Performs all of the functions and duties of a supervisor. Manages the work force, their vacation, their overtime, etc. to ensure that sufficient, trained and qualified, team members are available to complete the scheduled work. Ensures that electric and gas commercial and industrial meter sets comply with BGE Metering Standards and all applicable Federal and State regulations. Executes the daily plan for his team and monitors their performance. Adjusts the work plan and staffing to meet emergent needs. Communicates with customers, builders, local jurisdictions, and other company forces and leaders to ensure that the customers energy needs are met and properly measured. Is required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies (Gas outages, etc.).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manages, directs, leads, coordinates and oversees the activities of a team of 18 to 24 skilled metering technicians to effectively execute daily, weekly, and monthly work plans to fabricate, install, test, and put into service electric and/or gas commercial and industrial metering equipment in a manner that complies with BGE Standards, Federal and State regulations, and meets commitments made to our customers for new business, meter maintenance, and reactive/trouble work. Responsible for the safety of each and every member of the team. Observes work and driving to recognize, reward, and promote safe work and driving habits and compliance with safe work practices and procedures; coaches employees to eliminate unsafe acts and practices. Audits SAFE Job briefs to ensure that appropriate discussion takes place, risks are thoroughly identified, and that appropriate mitigating actions or barriers are put in place to reduce or eliminate threats. (25%)
Manages the performance of the unit and its individual members by setting consistent, realistic expectations and goals for improvement; influencing, supporting, and motivating employees to perform at their best; measuring performance consistently for the members of the team; providing timely recognition, feedback, and coaching to improve performance; and fairly differentiate and document performance for members of the team. (20%)
Ensures that the unit delivers planned work at a cost equal to or less than the budget for a given period by providing solid budgetary estimates; managing the activities of the team, their overtime, material, and tool costs to deliver expected results efficiently. (10%)
Interprets Company Construction Standards (Electric Overhead and Underground, and Gas), Electric and/or Gas Metering Standards and procedures, Company Safe Work Practices, applicable rules, environment policies, and governmental regulations to ensure that the work performed by the team and the Commercial and Industrial meter sets installed by the unit/team conforms to all of the applicable specifications. Communicates with builders, customers, engineers, architects, designers, electrical contractors, site superintendents, system operators, gas control, gas pressure control, and leaders and employees of electric and gas distribution divisions to resolve daily issues, as well as, to resolve major problems on complex projects. Oversees work performed by contractor for residential service increases, and other meter related work. (7%)
Directs complex off-hours jobs, as well as emergency call-ins and storm restoration operations for meter and loop. Plans system outages in cooperation with other Company personnel and contractors to ensure that work can proceed safely. (5%)
Over ten years' experience fabricating and installing electric and/or gas commercial and industrial meter installations or equivalent combination of formal education/training and electric and gas metering experience.
In-depth knowledge of applicable electric and/or gas Metering Standards, metering procedures, and metering equipment.
Working knowledge of the Company's electric (overhead and underground) and gas construction standards, safe work practices, and safety rules.
General knowledge of applicable electric or gas distribution work practices.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to positively resolve customer and contractor issues and complaints effectively.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
Operational or electrical work for a utility or contractor is satisfactory.
Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
